Management
If a Gallery movie bears an Administrative
ID, when it is downloaded in the Timeline, a "trash
can" icon will dynamically appear above of such timeline (on
the left of the "sound" symbol). See FIG.
14. This means the movie is manageable by its owner (or
by someone who has the administrative privilege to it). The "trash"
icon is a "delete" button for the administrator of the movie
to remove it from the Gallery. When it is clicked, an alert screen
will come up asking for a positive ID for administrative privilege.
If you are that someone with proper privilege, enter your ID (both
your e-mail and the password of the movie) in the appropriate fields
and press "REMOVE" button. If your ID is authenticated positively,
the selected movie will be removed permanently from the Gallery. You'll
see the list empties the selected item instantaneously and the Timeline
turns blank. If the authentication fails, the removal request will
be denied and nothing will happen to the selected Gallery movie.
The Moral:
Keep your "Administrative ID" (the combination of "e-mail"
and "password") to yourself, and always SAVE a copy of your
movie locally before you post it to the Gallery. While you may want
to give the "password" to people you wish to share your
movie with, DON'T give out the "e-mail" that is associated
with such movie at the same time unless it's necessary. Because Grandma
might end up deleting your masterpiece, accidentally.
Privacy and Security
In an
effort to strike a balance between enhanced communal application and
user privacy, careful measures have been taken in implementing Gallery's
user file management system.
E-mail Aliasing
Both
in the Gallery listing and on the e-mail messaging screen, author's
e-mail address is deliberately "concealed" from viewer
at all time while maintaining its intended mailing function. That
is, when someone clicks on your "author name" from the
Gallery to send you a message, he or she won't see your actual e-mail
address appeared in the "Email to:" field of the messaging
screen, only your "author name" (which can be of any nickname
you choose at the time of posting). However your designated e-mail
address is already embedded with your "author name". So
that, as long as user doesn't make any change to the default value,
message will always be sent to you as intended. Of course one can
always scratch out the default value in the "Email to:"
field and replace it with an e-mail address. In that case the e-mail
will be sent to whatever mail destination user specifies.
Encryption
For
added security and better usability, both your e-mail and password
are encrypted at the time of your posting. This is to provide a
general peace of mind for you to communicate and share personal
assets with others in the Gallery. But bear in mind that Gallery
is primarily designed for common communication purpose, not for
strict security consideration. While a fair level of encryptive
measures have been applied to the system, Gallery is NOT intended
for exchanging highly sensitive or confidential materials. Use common
sense and precaution when posting and exchanging your "private"
contents in the Gallery.
